Crosswind Advisory utilizes the portfolio strategies of F-Squared Investments, a leading investment management firm, to create the next step in the evolution of portfolio management “Crosswind Tactically Managed Assets” (CTMA)—a suite of defensively managed ETF portfolios. F-Squared, using ETFs and state-of-the-art money management techniques, determines which sectors of the market afford the best opportunities and which do not. They then provide allocation instructions to Crosswind Advisory who makes the required portfolio adjustments. CTMA’s real potential, however, comes in its ability to use cash to hedge the portfolio against extreme market down turns.
CTMA portfolios include:

• AlphaSector International Equity
• AlphaSector All Weather which contains bonds and alternative investments
These portfolios are designed and managed to limit losses during extended market downturns. This strategy also has the potential to deliver improved returns in up markets by constantly working from a position of strength. The portfolios attempt to avoid losses before making new gains. The objective of the strategy is to outperform traditional strategies in both normal markets and down markets, while reducing overall volatility.
Targeted solutions in development include emerging markets, absolute value, and other unique opportunities that exist with currency and interest rates by utilizing hedging and derivatives.
In particular, the CTMA AlphaSector Domestic Equity portfolio invests in U.S. Industry Sector Index ETF’s. As stated above, this portfolio is managed to avoid extreme downside moves in the market. Since 2001, we have seen several such moves and they are portfolio killers. More of this choppy market behavior is expected over the next several years or longer. CTMA AlphaSector endeavors to protect the portfolio from this phenomenon while providing participation in up markets. CTMA AlphaSector has shown remarkably consistent returns across these market cycles without the baggage associated with the use of derivatives.
